Feature screens of a family location app

Life360 is, by far, the most widely used family location app in the world: 102.4 million monthly active users according to its Q2 2026 results. If you've been searching for "app to locate my family," sooner or later you're going to come across it. Here we'll tell you what it is, what it does, what it costs in Spain, and how to sign up—with sources at the end. And yes, we're a competing app; that's exactly why we've made sure everything you read here is verifiable.

What Life360 is

Life360, Inc. was founded in 2008 in San Francisco. It's been listed on the Nasdaq since June 2024 and owns Tile, the Bluetooth finders for keys and luggage. The app works through Circles: you create a private group (your family), invite people with a code, and everyone shows up on a real-time map.

What it does

  • Real-time map of Circle members, with chat and low-battery alerts.
  • Place alerts: notifies you when someone arrives at or leaves home, school, or work.
  • Location history: 2 days on the free plan, 7 on Silver, and 30 on Gold.
  • Driving: family summary on all plans and individual reports (speed, phone use, hard braking, and rapid acceleration) only on Gold.
  • Crash detection and SOS on all EU plans. Heads up: automatic 24/7 emergency dispatch is not available in Spain (it is in France, Germany, Italy, the UK, and others). Here, SOS alerts your Circle and your emergency contacts.
  • Tile: see your Tiles on the map, even on the free plan.

Requirements: Android 10 or higher; on Spain's App Store the current version requires iOS 18. It doesn't work on tablets or watches.

Plans and prices in Spain

In the European Union, Life360 sells three plans (Platinum exists in the United States, not here). According to its European website, checked on October 14, 2026:

  • Free: 2 places with alerts, 2 days of history, and ads. Life360 itself explains that advertising funds the free version.
  • Silver: €5.99/month. 7 days of history and more places.
  • Gold: €9.99/month, with a 7-day trial. 30 days of history and individual driving reports.

The annual price doesn't appear in euros on the website ("save 17%"), and Spain's App Store listing shows in-app purchases with slightly different amounts (Silver €5.99, Gold €7.99 or €10.99) without specifying the period, so the exact price inside the app may vary. For reference, in the United States it costs $9.99, $16.99, and $24.99 per month.

What happens with your data

This is the part that raises the most questions—and rightly so. In December 2021, The Markup reported that Life360 was selling its users' precise location data to a dozen data brokers, for roughly $16 million in 2020. In January 2022, Life360 announced it would stop selling precise location to those brokers, keeping its agreement with Arity (an Allstate company) and aggregated data. In 2023 there was a class-action lawsuit.

Its current privacy policy (updated August 26, 2026) states that it licenses "certain information, including precise geolocation" to selected partners for their own advertising and monetization purposes, with the option to opt out under "Your Privacy Choices." It also says it doesn't show ads or sell data from accounts belonging to users under 18. Read it yourself: the link is in the sources.

Minimum age

Life360 doesn't allow use by children under 13 without parental consent and has Child and Teen accounts. In Spain the age of digital consent is 14, and the policy refers to "the minimum age in each jurisdiction."

How to sign up for Life360

  1. Download the app from the App Store or Google Play and tap "Get Started."
  2. Enter your phone number and the SMS code (in some countries it asks for email), your name, email, and date of birth.
  3. Enter the invitation code for your family's Circle (it expires after 72 hours) or create your own and invite people.
  4. Choose whether to share your location. You need at least two phones for it to make sense.

Life360 and Mi Estela

They're similar in the basics (map, places, SOS, chat) and different in what matters most to us: Mi Estela is symmetrical (there's no admin who sees more), has no ads, doesn't sell or license your location, doesn't score your driving, and adds video calls, the Pact, Ghost Mode, and Worlds. Premium is paid per entire circle (€9.99/month or €99.99/year, 14-day trial). And Life360 does things we don't: crash detection, Tile integration, accounts for young children.
